 North American Mission Board

"The North American Mission Board's Hunger Ministry assists churches,
associations, and state conventions, so that in the process of distributing food,
the Gospel can be shared with people in need. By meeting someone's physical
needs, opportunities are created to address their spiritual needs."

Examples of ministries through which the North American Mission Board works
to accomplish their hunger ministry goals include senior citizens' feeding programs,
soup kitchens, hospitality houses, Baptist rescue missions, stocking food pantries,
and providing food in disaster situations when disaster funds are not available
or are inadequate.

International Mission Board

"Since 1974, the Human Needs Office (now World Hunger & Relief Ministries)
has been assisting missionaries as they meet the needs of many throughout the world.

"The Hunger Fund is used to underwrite both developmental and disaster relief
human needs ministry projects. Developmental projects include those specifically
related to food distribution, agricultural needs, job skills training, education,
community development, water well drilling, water purification, and sanitation and
hygiene ministries. Most disaster relief ministries include those that provide for
emergency items such as food, water, shelter, blankets, medical assistance,
cleanup and repair of community infrastructure and reconstruction. Developmental
projects are long-term projects whereas normal disaster relief ministries remain active
no more than six to 12 months in duration, depending upon need and situation."
